Timing
this week and getting here
In late 2023, ED of Moscow Contemporary Roger Rowley told me two things: he was interested in having me build an installation for performances (wow!) but they were likely losing their amazing downtown gallery space (what?!?). But Roger is a pretty spectacular human, somehow managing to weather this huge blow (after the earlier blow of Covid), find, move into and build out a new space, keep everyone’s jobs, and also write grants with me to fund the installation, among myriad other things, while preserving his warmth and sense of humor. We didn’t get the grants - the next administration came in and the NEA fell apart. The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts on the other hand recognized what MosCo has been doing, and what it is up against as an arts organization in Northern Idaho, and in August 2025 granted them two years funding - which included commissioning me (wow!).
It is now seven months later and one week away from the opening of my Unnamed Shapes installation Loess. I’ll do my best in upcoming posts to show both what’s happened in those seven months and how the installation is currently emerging. Past posts in this logbook have hopefully already provided a sense of what I’m working with and thinking about. Wish me luck this week.
